What do these 5 headlines have in common?

1. Effortlessly Groove the Perfect Swing
2. The Worst Power Sucking Mistake to NEVER Make in Golf
3. Watch Golfer Add 40 Yards In 10 Shots
4. From Duffer to Deadly Accurate (50% Off)
5. Fix Your Swing Without Wasting Time Practicing

They were all subject lines for emails I have received in the past month.

The golf industry often preys on frustrated Golfers giving them hope that there’s an easy, fast solution that will solve your golf frustrations. So the indsutry will continually come up with cheap, worthless golf products that are inexpensive enough that you’ll buy them without much thought.

Because what’s $147.99 when you’re going to learn to “Effortlessly Groove the Perfect Swing” and be able to say like their advertisement says: “Finally! A Fast, Easy Way To Groove A Great Swing”.

And who wouldn’t be the least bit curious to read about “The Worst Power Sucking Mistake to NEVER Make in Golf”. As many of us could relate to their marketing: “If you’re sick and tired of being the shortest hitter in your foursome, give me less than 30 minutes and I’ll have your biggest drive errors completely fixed!”

Yes, just 30 minutes and you’ll be “completely fixed” … wow, I wonder why Tiger Woods hasn’t paid his $57 for this product. Surely he’d make that money back by making a cut at his next tournament. And he’d only have to practice for 30 minutes! Wow … I need this product myself!

Then, for everyone that wants more distance … you could also “Watch Golfer Add 40 Yards In 10 Shots”. This is an ad where you can see (as the email said) Al “go from 206 yard drives to 240 yard drives and saw his accuracy rise from 10% to 90% in less than 10 minutes.”

90% accuracy? That’s amazing since the #1 most accurate Player on the PGA Tour hits “only” 76.88% of his fairways. Wow … who is this guy? I’m sure Jordan Speith and his “lowly” 68% of Fairways Hit must be thinking he needs to buy this product so he doesn’t start getting beat by some guy named Al.

But, if you don’t have 10 minutes like Al did … you could “Fix Your Swing Without Wasting Time Practicing” by taking a pill called Golf Fuel that will help you with figuring out the “#1 Way To Eliminate 6 Strokes”.

As they advertise – “Just take 2 capsules in the morning and 2 capsules in the afternoon and let SCIENCE do the rest.” Wow … no practice needed and I can improve 6 strokes? Plus, with this product normally costing $97, I can take advantage of their special offer, and buy these pills for $24.

Yes, sign me up!

And then I can buy another product to go “From Duffer to Deadly Accurate (50% Off)”. Now I’m really excited because I’ve always wanted to be “deadly accurate”! As they write: “This Wedge is turning the golf industry on its ear, with a mind-blowing new design that’s transforming 20 handicappers into short game artists”

As they say … “turning the golf industry on its ear” … I guess that’s why they need to put this club on sale for 50% off. What they’re saying is that this product has helped so many people that they’re having trouble keeping up with demand – thus it makes sense that they would give 50% off.

I wonder why Apple doesn’t do the same for the iPhone?

“Just imagine the looks on the faces of your weekly foursome when you start dropping your wedge shots within kick-in range”. So I’m going to become a deadly accurate short game artist so that I have kickin’s? Plus I get 50% off?

This is too good to be true!

And it probably is … just like the other 4 products above.

As a Golfer … I understand your desire (and with some people … your desperation) to improve your golf. We all want to play better and we all get frustrated when we know we have the ability. But there’s no “get good quick” product or pill that will help you.

Just like desperate people used to buy snake oil to heal any ailment they had … these products above (and the many more email advertisements) I receive will have the equivalent affect on your golf game. Meaning that your anticipation of using the product will surely overwhelm the results you’ll see.

You can’t buy a golf swing with quick fixes … you need to earn it!

The Monkey is looking for golf’s equivalent of a small blue pill
