Five years from now, will your golf swing be better than it is today? The answer to that question may lie in the answer of this next question. Is you golf swing much better now that it was five years ago?

My hope is that you can say – “Yes, my golf swing is much better than it was five years ago.” Unfortunately, many Golfers can’t say that with a serious face. So what happened, or should I say – What didn’t happen over the last five years to allow you to improve?

Five years is a long time and should provide ample time for you to see improvements. I mean, you should see improvement in one day – we see it every day when Golfers travel to see GMS. And if you haven’t improved significantly over the last five years – what’s going to make the next five years any different?

The analogy is – Are you a Hoper or a Knower?

Most Frustrated Golfers are Hoper’s. All they do is hope. “I hope I play well today. I’ve never played with this group of Golfers before and they’re supposed to be pretty good. I hope I don’t embarrass myself.” Have you ever heard that before?

How about this one – “I’m hoping that the 6 half-hour golf lessons I signed up for will help me to become more consistent. My hope is that I can do a 30 minute lesson and then find some time to get to the driving range and practice before my next lesson. And if I can do that, hopefully I’ll see some improvement.”

On the other hand, most Happy Players are Knower’s. All they do is make a PLAN for improvement, and then they stay focused on executing that PLAN. “I know that the key for me to have a solid, consistent ball strike – I need to focus on my Center-of-Gravity. I know that when I’m in control of my CoG – I know that I’ll be able to make a smooth, consistent swing.” Have you heard that before? If not, you’re probably a Hoper and not a Knower.

How about this one? “I know that if I get off track with my golf swing, that I have one drill that I can always rely on. I know that if I hit one bad shot, I know how to ‘fix’ my swing before the very next shot by going back to my swing drill. A couple of Rehearsal Swings with this drill, and I know that my next swing will be much better.”

Can you sense the difference in confidence between a Hoper and a Knower? Can you see why a Knower has a more consistent Golf Game than a Hoper?

Let’s play a game. I’ll say a name and you answer Hoper or Knower after each one to signify if this Golfer is a Hoper or Knower.

Tiger Woods – Hoper or Knower?

Annika Sorenstam – Hoper or Knower?

John Daly – Hoper or Knower?

Brian Warpinski (who went from a 16 handicap to a 3 handicap) click here to read the Classic Golf Improvement Weekly about how Brian did it – Hoper or Knower?

You? – Hoper or Knower?

When standing on the tee – are you hoping for a good shot or do you know that you’re going to hit a good shot?

People who’s PLAN for success is hopefully winning the Lottery are – Hopers’. People that work to improve themselves so that they can become successful are – Knowers’.

Are you playing the Lottery with your Golf Game?

The Monkey drives to the golf course hoping to play better, hoping not to embarrass themselves, hoping this will finally be the day they become more consistent

The Player drives to the golf course knowing that they have a solid, consistent PLAN
