This week's Question:

When taking a "normal golf swing" and hitting the golf ball "perfect or close to perfect" - which club will hit the golf ball the highest?

Sorry that is INCORRECT. The CORRECT answer is:

ANSWER: E - They all go the same height

Although the lofts on these varied clubs are very different - these clubs will most likely hit the golf ball about the same height. The difference will be how they reach their apex. Whereas your lob wedge will hit the golf ball straighter up towards the sky – your 3-iron will take a more horizontal trajectory before reaching its highest point (its apex). Yet, all these clubs will hit the golf ball about the same apex.

The angle the golf ball is launched is called the golf ball's trajectory. Although the trajectory of these clubs will be different – the high point should be about the same.

This is important to understand because it'll help you to make a PLAN before your shot. And it's especially true if you have to go over a tree or over the sand or even over water.

Understanding and being able to “See” your golf shot (on every shot) before hitting it is essential in playing consistent golf.

Understanding the trajectory your golf ball will take, understanding its apex and understanding the descent it will take - will allow you to 'See' how the golf ball will fly and how it'll react once it hits the ground. Once you know that - then you can 'Feel' your golf swing before playing the shot. And once you can 'Feel' your golf swing – you can 'Do' your golf swing.

'See It, Feel It, Do It'

Whereas most Golfers don't 'See' their shot and if they can't 'See It' – it's impossible to 'Feel It' – and if you can't 'Feel It' – how they heck are you going to be able to 'Do It'?

Most Golfers think of their 3 iron going low and their wedges going high – yet, in reality – they go the same height. Next time you're on the golf course see whether understanding the Loft of your club, along with how the golf ball gets to that Loft (the trajectory) can help you to hit better golf shots.

Or better yet – If you had a chance to ask Tiger Woods if sees the Loft and trajectory of his shot before he hits it – what do you think he'd say?

So if you agree that he would say “yes” - why wouldn't you do the same for your shots? I guess it's time for you to come to GMS and learn how to 'Do It'.
