Your Best Summer of Golf Ever!
Do you want to have your best summer of Golf ever? Then repeat after me – say it out loud so it means more than just it saying to yourself:
"Going ahead from this day forward – I solemnly swear to work on my golf game with the specific goal of improvement. Not a minute of my time will have anything to do with just mindlessly hitting golf ball after golf ball. My game is too important for me to fall into that bad habit.
"From now on, I'm committed to working specifically on the drills that will help me to improve the Weaknesses in my golf swing. I will not just see a golf tip in a golf magazine and decide that this is what I need to work on. I will have to make an honest decision on whether that tip really pertains to my golf swing as opposed to just trying it because it's in the magazine or on television.
"I realize that I need to hit the golf ball better to score better, but I also need to convince myself that 36 putts a round or more is too much. In the past, I've always had the philosophy that my putting is good enough and that I'll start working on it when I get my golf swing more consistent.
"Yet, I've been working on trying to become more consistent for the last 5 years and if I kept that same philosophy, it might be another 5 years before I get to my putting. I need to really stay adamant about this because 36 putts is at least 4 putts too many per round. And really, if I do have only 36 putts a round, it was good putting day for me – in reality I probably average 40 or more putts per round.
"And if I just spend 25% of the time I usually reserved for the driving range and used it for my putting – I could easily go from 40 putts to 32 putts in a short timeframe. Hey, an 8 stroke improvement isn't a bad thing! If you had asked me if I wanted to improve my full swing to improve 8 strokes – I'd be all over that as quick as you could flip a switch, but for some reason – it never meant as much when it came to putting.
"I wonder why Golfers aren't as enthused about improving their putting 8 strokes? Why is it that in the past that improving 8 strokes with my putter didn't seem as appealing as improving 8 strokes with my Driver?
"I mean, 8 strokes is 8 strokes regardless of what area you improve upon.
"My goal is to improve. And the way to see improvement and have it continue through the years is to have a PLAN - that'll allow me to stay focused on what I need to work on. In the past, I've jumped from drill to drill and swing thought to swing thought trying to find "The Magic". Yet, the only thing I found was that I was never happy with my game. From now on – I'm staying focused on the drills that I know are going to improve the Weaknesses in my golf swing!
"Golfers around the world often times become so distracted that they lose focus at the driving range. They fall prey to getting away from their PLAN of improving how they hit the golf ball and get into a ball bashing session that often includes alternating moments of exhilaration; followed closely by long periods of despair.
"Not me anymore – that's the old me. I want to be a Player. And you just can't call yourself a Player and expect to become one – You Need To Earn Player Status!!"
It's easy to read the above – it's a little more difficult to make sure you live by it. Though, if you want to earn Player Status – you need to stay committed as opposed to getting distracted by all the new swing tips that are put in your path each year.
The Monkey says they want to become a Player, yet doesn't commit to a PLAN
The Player reads this GIW over and over and lives it
Go ahead, Be a Player!

"I'll Be Returning Next Spring To Amelia Island"
Good morning Alex,
I just completed my three day class yesterday with Scott at Amelia Island. I’m depressed today sitting in my office in Maryland where it’s only 40 degrees, but all good things must eventually come to an end.
I don’t know where you found Scott, but you need ten more of him. He is such a great person and his attitude and enthusiasm are still with me. Every company needs people like Scott and I am so fortunate to have had him as my golf instructor. I will be returning next spring to Amelia Island and I can only hope that Scott is still there teaching this great game.
Regards,
John E. – Great Mills, Maryland – April 16th, 2008
Attended Amelia Island Location on April 13th to 15th, 2008
"My Game Is Bound To Improve!"
To all at GMS,
I returned home today from the GMS school in La Quinta, California (April 11-13). It was everything I hoped it would be and then some. I cannot say enough about my instructor, Wataru. He is truly a gem and you couldn't ask for a better ambassador for your company. Wat is the ultimate professional; patient, sincere, but with an easy laugh and smile. Wat instantly made us all feel at ease with his easy going style and personality.
My co-students were all from Canada and I am from California. We worked hard and laughed a lot. My game is bound to improve with the "tools" I am bringing home with me. Finally, I know where my weaknesses are and how to fix them. I wish every golfer could attend this class, not only to get better, but to change their attitude on the course.
Wat, I wish you the very best of everything. You are a rare talent in so many ways.
Julie G. – Bakersfield, California – April 14th, 2008
Attended Palm Springs/La Quinta location on April 11th to 13th, 2008

The Next GMS Location Is ...
Pretty soon, just in time for summer – you might be hearing about the next GMS location. Where will it be? I can't say yet. Will it be up north or down south? I'm really not allowed to say anything.
I can say that it's in a beautiful location that might be close to an area that many Golfers that have come to see GMS have traveled from. And that's all I'm allowed to say at this point. Trust me – this location is under lock and key at this point and you'd have a better chance breaking into Fort Knox – than you'll have finding out this location before it's announced.
When will it be announced? Maybe next week.
See you next week,
Regards,
Alex – Director

This Guy Won The Masters Part II
Last week’s Stat of the Week was about how Trevor Immelman (the current Masters Champ) struggled at the PGA Tournament in Texas – where he didn’t make the cut and came in 5th to last place. Now I’m not sure where he’ll end up this week because today is only Thursday and only the 1st Round of the PGA Tournament in Charlotte, North Carolina – but things aren’t looking good after Day 1.
Immelman’s stats in Round One – 5 bogeys and 1 double bogey. Why is this significant? Because that’s the same exact stats he had for all four rounds at Augusta National! He has made as many Bogeys and Double Bogeys in one round at this “insignificant tournament” as he had in four rounds at Augusta National, which is a harder golf course in what might be the most famous golf event in the world!
This isn’t about picking on Trevor – this about showing you that inconsistency happens to everyone who touches a golf club – even a recent winner of a Major Golf Tournament. This week Immelman has started out with a 4 over score that puts him close to the bottom of a list of a bunch of Players that didn’t even qualify to play in the Masters – let alone come close to winning.
So remember - the next time you have a great round and then follow-it-up with a not so great round – just be happy you don’t play golf for a living!

"Why do you think Tiger does Pilates? Why does Annika do about 1000 sit-ups a day? Sure it's their job to play better golf all the time. But if you're going to invest 5 hours each time you go to play golf – why wouldn't you add 3 minutes a day to do 10 push-ups and 20 sit-ups? Don't you want to play your best golf during those 5 hours? And don't you agree that becoming a little stronger would help your golf swing?
You don't need to be athletically talented to have fun playing Golf. Though if you want to improve – you should do something athletic! When's the last time you did 20 sit-ups? Will 20 sit-ups help you hit the golf ball better? Well, why don't you try it for yourself?
Listen, I'm no Jack Lalanne. Though, I do know that you won't improve the control you have over the club without getting stronger. Do you think if your forearms were a little stronger that you'd be in more control of your club face during your swing? Do you think 10 push-ups will help your forearms get stronger?"
