We interrupt our regularly scheduled golf instruction to
make a special announcement. GMS is
proud to announce the opening of 2 new GMS locations. We normally reserve this space to speak about
ways to improve your golf game (and we’ll get back to that next week). However, every once in a while we need to
make a special announcement.
GMS has primarily been based in
Florida
(4 locations),
California (2 locations) and
Arizona (1
location). 6 of those locations could be
called Winter locations for Golfers coming south to escape the cold – the
exception being our
Lake Tahoe location –
which is open from June 8th to October 15th.
We have now expanded our Summer locations by 2:
WashingtonDC and
Denver,
Colorado.
Two
New GMS Locations
WashingtonDC
&
Denver,
Colorado
Why have we chosen these two locations? You mean besides having the best
practice facilities around, excellent golf courses and having a hotel either on
property or within just 2 miles away (with free shuttle service)? Or that both
are just 15 minutes from major airports or within just a few hours drive from
areas with many Golfers?
Maybe the details below can answer some of these questions for you:
WashingtonDC - Lansdowne Resort
First - Accessibility: Lansdowne Resort is 15 minutes
from Washington/Dulles Airport. Right on the edge of
Virginia wine country. With shuttle service
available from the airport - there's no need to even rent a car - you don't
need to leave the resort. And it's within a few hours drive of
New York,
Philadelphia,
Baltimore,
Richmond,
etc.
Second - The Golf Courses: Lansdowne Resort has 45
holes of golf (27 holes by Greg Norman and 18 by Robert Trent Jones Jr.) and an
excellent practice facility. And what's also great is that each hole is
bordered by nature and the
Potomac River - not
houses - it's absolutely beautiful! A double-sided practice range and dedicated
short game facility. Although it's all about the golf - I have to say that the
clubhouse is also fantastic!
Third - The Accommodations: Lansdowne Resort has been named a AAA 4
Diamond Resort with 296 rooms on property, 5 restaurants, a full service spa, 5
swimming pools, tennis courts and an excellent exercise facility, etc. So
once you're there - there's no reason to step off property.
Fourth - Additional thoughts: If you're a Golfer, it's
obvious why this is such a great facility to have a GMS program. However, an
additional bonus is what's available if you want to bring a non-golfing spouse
or children. With the fantastic pools on property, the historic sites of the
nation’s capital just down the road, full service spa, wineries, Friday Night
Concerts on property, etc., etc. The rest of the family will have plenty of
activities to occupy their time.
Denver,
Colorado -
GreenValley Ranch Golf Club
First - Accessibility:
GreenValley Ranch is 15 minutes from
DenverInternationalAirport. And our two
hotels - The Hyatt Place and the Marriott are just 2 miles from the golf
course. Plus, both hotels provide complimentary shuttle service from the
airport to the hotel and from the hotel to the golf course each day - with
restaurants at or next to the hotels, there's no need for a rental car.
Second - The Golf Courses: Green Valley Ranch has 27 holes -
an excellent 18 holes by Perry Dye (it’s the site of the Colorado Open), and it
also has the coolest 9 hole short course I've ever seen, along with having the
best practice facility out of all our GMS locations. First, to hold the State Open
Championship tells you it's a great golf course. Second - you're in
Colorado. Of course it's
a beautiful setting. Third - It was voted the best practice facility in Colorado!
The practice facility is as good as it gets. Private range area,
an excellent private short game area and a dedicated instructional building. This
really is a first rate facility - it's no wonder it was voted as the best
practice facility in
the state.
Third - Accommodations: At Green Valley Ranch, we're using
two hotels - the brand new
Hyatt
Place and the Marriott. Both are pretty much
right next to each other and are just 2 miles from the golf course. Both hotels
offer free transportation to and from the airport, along with to and from the
golf course, free wireless internet, both have pools, exercise facilities and
the Hyatt has complimentary continental breakfast (at the Marriott you can
upgrade your room to the Concierge Floor for $20 a night which gives you access
to the Concierge Lounge and includes breakfast, night time appetizers, etc.)
Fourth - Additional thoughts: Again, if you're a Golfer,
it's obvious why this is such a great facility to have a GMS program. Plus,
just look a few miles to the west and you're in the
Rockies.
You can actually see
Pike's Peak from the golf
course. During your GMS program, there won't be much time for exploring the
area - though if you have a couple extra days, go and enjoy the
Rockies and all the activities they provide.
And as part of the 10 Year Anniversary of GMS, along with the
opening of these 2 new locations – we’re holding 2 Special Programs to
celebrate. Do you want to be a part of
the action – then read more in The Buzz.

"The Longest, Straightest Drive Of My Life!"
Hi Alex - I wanted to send you a quick thank you for getting
me into the GMS class at TRILOGY at Vistancia last week.
A few things: First
GREAT instructor. We all liked James and his method and manners. He was
very easy to work with. Secondly, enjoyed the group of people you hooked
me up with. We all got along well and had some fun along the way.
More importantly, everything you told me and I heard about
GMS is correct! On the third day of
instruction I hit the longest, straightest drive of my life! James and I figured it to be about 275 to 280
yards.
The next afternoon, my wife and I played up in Sedona and I
had a great round. I shot an 81 which I have done before, but not in a while. Usually after instruction I don’t do well
for several rounds. GMS took effect right away because I was following the
important steps I learned at GMS.
Thanks again and put in the good word for James!

"Finally A Golf Lesson That Works!!!"
GMS -
Finally a golf lesson that works and teaches the student how to practice and
get the most results on the course. Hayden was not only an expert, but patient
and thoughtful. I look forward to playing this season and taking Level 1.5. My
improved game will recommend your class. This is the most confidence I have
ever had after a lesson or training session.

Your Driver might just be the most important club in your
bag. If you’re hitting it badly – you’re most likely not having a fun time on
the golf course. Or to put it into even sharper terms – When you’re not hitting
your Driver well – Golf Stinks!
So how do you hit your Driver better? Ahh, there’s probably been a million
articles written about this subject!
I believe the first part of hitting your Driver better is to …..

If He Putts Well - He Might Win The Masters!
We all know that Tiger won this past weekend in
Orlando, but what you
might not know is what’s happening to Vijay Singh. Vijay is one of the Top 3 Players over the
last 10 years – yet, he’s having a bit of a struggle this year. And his stats show that he actually hit the
golf ball much better at Bay Hill than Tiger did. So what’s happening?
Looking at the PGA Tournament at Bay Hill – Vijay came in 59th
out of 73 Golfers. However, he hit the
golf ball about as well as anyone. The
issue? His putting – he ranked 72nd
out of 73 Golfers in putting. He
averaged 31.5 putts per round. The
average for all Players in the event was 29 putts. So if Vijay just putted as well as the
average PGA Tour Player – he would’ve scored 10 strokes less over the 4 rounds.
That would’ve moved him from near last place to 8th
– quite a jump! That’s how well he’s
hitting the golf ball - if he putted just average - he almost wins! The funny thing
is that most Golfers will talk about how poor a putter Vijay is – yet he’d
‘smoke’ 99.9% of these Golfers on the putting green. So if you’re averaging more than 31.5 putts
per round – maybe you should spend more time practicing your putting because if
Vijay is losing 2.5 strokes each round while putting 31.5 times – how many strokes are
you losing putting 41 times per round?

"It Doesn't Get Any Better Than This!"
What does the GMS Golfer look like?
GMS has such a diverse group of Golfers that have come to see us from all over the world. From CEO's of major corporations to Emmy Award winning producers to small business owners to elementary school teachers to regular people like you and I.
With limiting our groups to only 4 Golfers - many of you don't get to meet all the great people that we get to meet. So we want to introduce you to some of them.
Your Name:
Dr. Rick Zabrodski - "Dr Zee"
Age 53. Playing golf since age 45.
Where do you live?
Born and raised just north of
Toronto,
Ontario.
Living in
Calgary,
Alberta since 1977.
Occupation:
Professional Scuba Diver prior to
MedSchool.
Subsequently certified in Emergency, Family, and Occupational Medicine.
Currently in private practice involved with latter two areas. I am now taking
care of the babies of the babies I delivered 25 years ago!
Family:
Wife Rhonda (supportive golf widow). Daughter Sarah, recent Art
History Grad and world traveler – who now wants to learn golf from the basics
at GMS in 2009. Son Adam, age 21, final year university engineer and still avid
golfer (who got me started in golf when he was age 13 – something perhaps
related to that Tiger Woods fellow – I hit my driver, he hits a 4 iron, to
achieve same distance)
Interests outside of golf:
Enthusiastic power and glider pilot with 2000+ hours, IFR and
instructor ratings. Former competitive sailplane pilot. Avid cyclist, still
occasional scuba diver. Former hang glider pilot and skydiver.
Year and location of first visit to GMS:
Palm Springs, November 2007
Favorite GMS location:
Palm Springs. I returned in 2008.
Easy access from
Calgary, climate similar to
Calgary's summers. No
need to check the weather: sunny, blue skies, warm.
Most memorable GMS moment:
Achieving center contact on correct impact 3 times in row, then
10 times in row, watching the ball go far and straight with an easy, effortless
swing.
Most Valuable Thing Learned at GMS :
I can now act as my own “coach". I know what to do and how
to do it. Most important, if I make a mistake, I can figure out why and correct
it. While I can still mishit a shot, the one after is usually pretty good, thus
eliminating the “snowman" or “blowup holes"
Scores pre-GMS and goals you wanted
to achieve:
I was 14 handicap and I wanted have fewer blowup holes and lost
balls, improve my short game and putting, and hit more Greens in Regulation.
Your scores now - have you reached some of
your pre-GMS goals and what are your new goals you've made since reaching
initial goals:
After the first GMS I attended, shot a career low 78 in cold and
windy conditions – 5 GIR with 2 birdies and an incredible 24 putts. I
subsequently had my first hole in one. The day after my second GMS I played 18
holes of golf for the first time in 2 months at Trilogy and hit 12/14 fairways
(2 were just off the first cut) and made 7/9 GIR on the back nine.
What you like about GMS:
It uses evidence based drills and instruction – ie, it is
results orientated. Ongoing support after you leave is unique in the industry.
Describe what GMS means to you in
10 words or less:
Hit the ball solid, consistent, straight, and with a PLAN.
Your favorite golf course and why:
Augusta National (The Masters). While I only got to “watch"
in 2003, it reminded me of being a kid visiting
Disneyland.
Varied elevations, lies, hole layouts. Impeccable grounds keeping. Wonderful
management – I truly felt like a guest.
Home golf course:
Carmoney Golf and Country Club - The holes are described
in detail – we even provide a PLAN for each hole online!
While only 6,836 yards from the tips, it is a par 72 that plays to a 73.2
rating and slope of 141. Varied with both flat and hilly holes, it has 90+
bunkers and water in play on 14 holes. It has been the site of the Alberta CPGA
championships for the past three years. Par 3, number 6 makes TPC Sawgrass look
low stress in comparison. When you play a course like this all the time,
nothing scares you. You cannot improve without developing a serious plan for
each hole.
Golf Goal for 2009:
Each round will have 32 or less puts, 8 GIR, no lost balls (all
tee shots in play) and saying "Tick Tock" every single time. The
score will take care of itself.
Favorite PGA, LPGA or Champions Tour Player:
Mike Weir – only Canadian to win a major, eh! Michelle Wie – great to
watch, and hopefully we will watch her grow - destined for stardom once she
outgrows her parents Gary Player – his drill
is great and I aspire to be as fit as he is at age 70
If you could play a round of golf with 3 other
people (living or dead), who would you pick to round out your foursome and what
golf course (if you could play anywhere) would you choose to play on?
Tiger Woods and Bobby Jones together with my son at
Augusta. So we could both
witness who is really is the greatest player ever and what their “PLAN" is
in action.
Anything that you'd like to add:
Tick tock, tick tock, tick tock, tick tock...with a PLAN each
and every time you Tick Tock.
Two New GMS Locations - Special Anniversary Programs!
On top of having two
excellent, new locations – it's also the 10th Anniversary of GMS. So as part of
our 10th Anniversary – we’re hosting two special GMS Programs at our two newest
locations – that include some extras you might like to be involved with.
Like always, the GMS
Program will be 1 Instructor for 4 Golfers. However, in addition to your GMS
Program, Marc Solomon will be coming out to be a part of your program. He’ll
be there to provide a morning clinic each morning, along with having 2 hours of
private one on one time with each participant - in addition to the regular GMS
Program.
As you may know –
Marc started GMS 10 years ago and continues to improve the GMS program. Over the last 5 years, Marc has been limited
to working with only a couple of individuals each year, in addition to some corporate
outings; as he has been focused on writing Golf Improvement Weekly & the
GMS Alumni Bulletin, as well as training our GMS Instructors every day. So to have Marc come out to be a part of your
program could be considered a nice little bonus because that just doesn’t
happen anymore.
And with the rates
staying the same as a regular GMS Program – we have to say: that if you’ve never been to GMS, yet always
wanted to attend – this might be a good time to do it.
This special 3 day
Program is being held in WashingtonDC and in Denver,
Colorado – that’s it. May 29th to 31st in
Washington & June 1st to 3rd in
Denver. Yes, GMS will be running Programs all through the Summer at both
locations – though these are the only dates for the GMS Anniversary Program.
In addition to
spending time and working with the Founder and President of GMS, there are also
a couple of other “things” we’re trying to pull together. I mean – it’s
our 10 Anniversary and we’re celebrating two new GMS Locations - so it’s gotta
be good!
Please remember -
this is only happening once in
WashingtonDC and once in
Denver.
So if you want to be a participant - don't hesitate because this Golf
Improvement Weekly is being read by over 16,000 eager Golfers – plus all the
people following us on Facebook and Twitter.
